Project Honey Pot filed the largest anti-spam lawsuit ever. Seeking more than $1B in statutory damages, the suit was brought on behalf of Honey Pot's members.
Project Honey Pot is an US organization that provides a distributed system for webmasters for identifying spammers and the spambots they use to scrape addresses from websites.
The law suit is made on behalf of Project Honey Pot's members in over 100 countries.
The lead attorney on the case, Jon Praed of the Arlington, Va.-based Internet Law Group, has represented America Online and Verizon Online in successful cases against junk e-mailers. Praed said the group hopes to follow the trail from the people doing the harvesting of e-mail addresses to the actual spammers.
